Josh (also known affectionately by his nickname 'George Bush'), was born on the 21st of November 2006 at the Way Kambas Elephant Conservation Centre in the south of Sumatra. Josh was born to the beautiful 'Gunturia', who was most likely in her early twenties when she gave birth to this intelligent little elephant. Gunturia joined the Elephant Conservation Centre herd after arriving from an elephant training centre in Palembang, as part of an elephant exchange program in December 2003. Josh spends his days with his mahout Tri Sulistiyono or Sulis as he is known by the other mahouts. The two began training together in November 2009 when Josh was just 3 years old. Josh was a very quick learner, and like the other young bulls at the centre, he can be very mischievous!
Josh has a very special bond with Sulis, and together the two set a good example of how humans and elephants can live in harmony together. The understanding and trust shared between the two ensures Josh is always on his best behaviour when the two are together. Josh is at his happiest when he is socialising with his friends, foraging in the jungle, and getting a scrub down in the cool river that flows through the park.
Please adopt Josh and help ensure he lives a healthy and happy life well into the future!
